What is Little Ponderosa Jewels? The concept started in 1999 with an empty lot of land - an acre to be exact. This lot was full of slash pines, Brazilian pepper (Florida holly), melaleuca trees (both nonindigenous, so we weren't sad to see those go)...you name it, this property was heavily populated. One day there was a thicket of trees and bushes so dense that you had to walk through it with a machete, and the next there was nothing but a mountain of mulch and about a dozen pines left standing. My mouth was agape at how much open land there was before me. It may as well have been the Nebraska plains because the lot seemed huge! It was at that moment that I named our home site Little Ponderosa.

Now, mind you, I didn't decide at that moment that I was going to embark on a jewelry business, but the name Little Ponderosa conjured up images of nature, color, shapes and space. And because I've always had a passion for jewelry, I guess it was inevitable that a path would lead me to this venture. So humor me, if you will, as I take you on my journey from jungle to jewelry. BTW, the construction of our home even survived Hurricane Floyd in September of that year! This site is a work in progress, so check back often for updated photos and other additions. Now, if you would, continue on to the "Shop for Jewels" section and allow yourself to "Adorn Your BODY and Lift Your SPIRIT"! P.S. After nine years, it's time to paint the house again. New pics will be posted when we are finished.

Well, I promised new pictures once we finished painting but...we're not quite there yet. In the meantime, about seven months into our project, we're about three-quarters complete. We still have the trim to finish, a fourth coat of paint to apply to the garage door, shutters to build and paint, but I decided to post some snaps anyway. Oh, and we're going to replace the plastic, beige siding that seems out of place with some brick or stone (that will be another project). Regardless, I'm amazed at how the property has developed and matured over 10 years. Yes, it will be 10 years Halloween 2009. When all is said and done, I will share the finished product with you.
